1) (7/26/11) Syracuse University center Ryan Bartholomew said he will sign a free agent deal with the Baltimore Ravens later today.
The move puts him just 40 minutes away from his hometown of Mitchellville, Md., and reunites him with former SU teammates Art Jones and Jameel McClain.
“It’s just an opportunity to make the team, (stay) close to home,” Bartholomew said. “I just felt comfortable.”
Bartholomew showed strong at the NFL combine. He came in first among the 56 offensive linemen with 34 reps. He came in second in the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.97 seconds, and ninth in the 20-yard shuttle. So it was a bit of a surprise when he wasn’t drafted.
“I’m always a little nervous. But keep strong,” he said. “Once the lockout was lifted, it just got crazy. It’s just very hectic.”
