AFLAC Amazing Athlete: Sam English has scored plenty of goals in his lacrosse career, but few bigger than the go-ahead goal with 48 seconds left in regulation that completed an SU men’s lacrosse comeback from a three-goal deficit to knock off Virginia 18-17 at the JMA Dome.

Atlas Fence All-Star:  Olivia Adamson continues to impress for SU women’s lacrosse. Another three-goal hat trick was recorded by Adamson in the Orange’s battle at Boston College, a close contest that would go to overtime and end 11-10 in the Eagles’ favor.

Holbrook Heating and Air Conditioning Archive: With so much talk about close games and dramatic endings, it’s worth remembering that SU men’s lacrosse’s last national championship in 2009 was earned…in overtime, over Cornell, 10-9, the game-winner coming from Cody Jamieson.

Byrne Dairy/Mooney Marketing Community Corner: It was a remarkable ceremony at the JMA Dome when the no. 19 of Paul Gait, author of so many great lacrosse memories in the late 1980s for SU men’s lacrosse, was retired right alongside his twin brother, Gary, during halftime of the regular-season finale against Virgina.

Nye Automotive Assist: Owen Hiltz was absolutely critical to SU men’s lacrosse in its come-from-behind 18-17 victory over Virginia at the JMA Dome, piling up five assists to go with his three-goal hat trick, half the team’s assist output in this game.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Star: Welcome back Trebor Pena. He missed the 2023 season for SU football, and the Orange badly missed his big-play capability, but Pena made a successful return to the field during the spring game at the JMA Dome and was frequently targeted by Kyle McCord.

Wilkins RV Rewind: Though SU women’s lacrosse saw its win streak end in an 11-10 overtime defeat to Boston College, the men’s Orange reversed recent history of close defeats against elite opponents when it won a wild 17-16 epic over Virginia in the regular-season finale at the JMA Dome.

U.S. Army Rising Star: Billy Dwan, take a bow. During the frantic late fourth-quarter comeback by SU men’s lacrosse to beat Virginia 18-17, it was Dwan who emerged from a scrum and, with a scooped back-handed shot, put in a highlight-reel tying goal with 1:44 to play in regulation.

CNY Sealing and Paving Defender: While many defenders had fine showings in SU football’s spring game, it was a newcomer with the great name of KingJoseph Edwards who, with a strip sack of Carlos DelRio-Wilson, forced the only turnover of the contest.

Ethan Allen Mark of Excellence: As she has collected 49 goals and 13 assists this season for SU women’s lacrosse, Emma Tyrrell has done enough to be one of the 25 nominees for the Tewaaraton Award that goes to the country’s top college lacrosse player at season’s end.
